Charlie Slagle announced as US Youth Soccer Southern Regional Premier League commissioner
Most competitive league in the south set for further growth
FRISCO, Texas (May 8, 2014) — US Youth Soccer is pleased to announce the appointment of Charlie Slagle as the US Youth Soccer Southern Regional Premier League (SRPL) commissioner. Slagle brings years of experience at all levels of soccer to the position.
Slagle will manage all four of the US Youth Soccer Region III Premier Leagues — the Regional Premier League, Premier League East, Premier League Central and Premier League West. He is currently planning the 2014-15 SRPL seasonal year leagues and will begin day-to-day management with Fall 2014 play.
“I am very pleased to welcome Charlie Slagle as the US Youth Soccer Southern Regional Premier League Commissioner,” US Youth Soccer Region III Director Jesse Harrell said. “Most, if not all, of those involved in soccer in the region are familiar with Charlie through his long years of involvement in soccer within Region III and beyond. Charlie brings tremendous leadership to the table and experience at every level of the sport of soccer — from the youngest recreational player through the adult professional player.”
The SRPL provides an opportunity for the most competitive teams in US Youth Soccer Region III, consisting of Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, North Texas, Oklahoma, South Carolina, South Texas and Tennessee US Youth Soccer State Associations, to play each other on a scheduled basis while also competing for placement in the prestigious US Youth Soccer Regional Championships, as well as the highly-competitive US Youth Soccer National League.
Slagle spent 21 years as the men’s soccer head coach at Davidson College and 12 years as CEO of Capital Area Soccer League in Raleigh, N.C. He also acted as the tournament organizer for 14 NCAA Division I College Cups and 15 Atlantic Coast Conference tournaments and was a member of the NCAA Rules Committee.
Within the NSCAA, Slagle has held several roles, from being on the Board of Governors to instructing as a Master Coach Mentor to his current position as Vice President of Education. He is a current member of the US Youth Soccer National League Committee and has hosted a US Youth Soccer Region III Championship and US Youth Soccer National Presidents Cup.
“Having coached teams that participated in the SRPL in addition to his years as a college coach, Charlie is knows the needs of the players, coaches and clubs,” Harrell said. “He has some great ideas for making the league even more beneficial and is ready to jump in and get started.”
